Random Acts of Kindness for Seniors
The older people in our lives are often the loneliest — and the easiest to reach. A warm, doable list of kind acts for the seniors you love, and the ones you haven't met yet.

Loneliness hits older adults harder than almost anyone, and it is quietly one of the biggest health risks they face. The good news is that the antidote is small and completely free: your attention. A phone call, a card in the mail, a question about a memory — to a younger person these feel minor. To someone whose days have gotten quieter, they can be the best part of the week.
This list leans on connection and remembering. Some of these are for the seniors in your own family; others are for the older neighbor whose name you have never learned. All of them take a few minutes and none of them require a special occasion.
Kind things to do for the seniors in your life
Call a grandparent just to talk.
Mail a card to a friend.
Write a handwritten thank-you note.
Message an old friend you have lost touch with.
Ask someone how they are and truly listen.
Share a favorite memory with an old friend.
Call someone instead of texting them.
Learn the name of someone you see often but never greet.
Sit with someone who is sitting alone.
Give more hugs.
Surprise a friend.
Text someone you miss.
Take out your headphones and listen.
Take a step to heal a relationship.
Make someone smile today.
The theme running through all of these is the same: show up, and pay real attention when you do. Older adults have usually had a lifetime of people half-listening. Being the person who fully listens is the kindest thing on this page.
